This Week

1. Finished my last latch hook rug. If I make any more of them, I think I'll give myself carpal tunnel. I like how they turned out and got a lot of reading (listening) done while I worked.

2. Weather = terrible. Cold and rainy/snowy. I want my warm spring back!

3. My brother Christian is engaged! I'm so excited to go their wedding this summer. The date is Jul. 23rd in the Salt Lake area.

4. Visiting teaching. I hate setting it up, but I always love going.

5. Relief Society meeting. That's tonight, and it's on "speed friendshipping". I can't wait to go!

6. Losing weight. I am 1 lb. from my goal now! I changed the rules of the "detox" I was doing so it would include more food. Once I reach my goal, I'm going to try to keep going.

A breakdown of my weight/body fat goals: (if I am able to reach them without being unhappy or starving. I'm taking it 5 lbs. at a time.) This is assuming I don't build more muscle. I don't think I work out enough to increase my muscle mass, only to maintain it. I do know that my lean body mass is 105, hence these calculations.

150/30% - reached! normal range
145/27.5% - almost there! normal range
140/25% - my lowest weight ever as an adult (starting at age 14) bottom of the "normal" range or top of the "fit" range
135/22% - I can probably get here. fit range
132/20% - I'd like this to be the bottom of my normal range. (I'm aiming for a range of 132-135).  bottom of the fit range, top of the "supermodel/athlete" range
125/15% - Lowest weight I'd be considered healthy. I doubt I'll ever be this skinny. I guess we'll have to see where I get. Getting through winter was really hard this past year. I'm trying really hard to get out of the habit of using food as comfort.

Articles of Faith #10

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

I think this Article of Faith may be the most difficult to understand, but over time I have learned its meaning. The tribes of Israel were scattered because of their unbelief. This allowed for Israel to spread over all the earth. In the modern day, Israel is being gathered through the Church. Whether members are literal descendants of Israel or not doesn't matter. Being a member of the Church makes a person an adopted member of the house of Israel, God's chosen people. Zion will be built one day, but the people must be righteous enough first. There have been several failed attempts in the past to build Zion. I look forward to the day when Christ comes again and is our leader. The earth is a wicked place, but one day it will be a place of peace and love. I am trying to make my own home a "paradise" even though the outside world is not.

Life as Usual

Stuff I worked on this week: another latch hook rug (red) for my kitchen, sorting through kids's clothes that I brought up from the crawl space for the ward D.I. drive, listening to more audiobooks while I did these two things

The weather has been cool and rainy. I'm not a fan. I want it to be warm again. It's too warm for the big, puffy blanket but too cold for the one we have now. James is fine, but I feel like I'm freezing. I did finally get used to not wearing slippers and socks. My feet felt really weird for the first few days.

Sunday, I slammed my thumb in the door as I was getting the kids out of the car for Church. It hurt a lot, and I was fighting back tears during Sacrament meeting. My friend Claire brought me some ice in bag from the kitchen, which helped a lot. Later at home, James took a drill bit and poked a hole in my fingernail to relieve the pressure. OUCH. However, I regained full use of my thumb within 24 hours. It barely aches now. It's crazy to think how painful it was just a few days ago.

On an unrelated note, I think if you can successfully crack a coconut and remove all the meat,  you can do anything.

Articles of Faith #9

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

I am grateful for continuing revelation. Not only do we have the words of the prophets from long ago, we also have a living prophet today who continues to reveal the words of God to us. God loves His children just as much as He did in the past. He would never leave us without a way to continue learning His words. We live in a wonderful time, because though the Church is worldwide, we can listen to the words of the Prophet through modern technology over and over again. I treasure the words of the apostles and prophets.

Finished!

It certainly feels good to finish a project. I've actually completed a few classic books this week while working on a latch hook rug for my bathroom, which I also finished. (Many classics I start, but do not finish. More on that later.)

Latch hook rugs really are the perfect, mindless craft to do while doing something else, like watching TV or listening to a book. It's really nice to have replaced the old rug I bought in college that used to be pink but is now white from many washings.

My "detox" is going well. I have lost 5 lbs. already, which puts me 3 away from my goal. Sometimes I wonder what my weight really could be if I stuck to healthy eating longer, but I always get complacent around 145 and don't really try. If I got to 135, I would have 22% body fat. We'll see. I'm going to take it one pound at a time. I live by numbers and rules so strictly that my BMI has always bothered me even though my BFP is in normal range. James hasn't minded eating different meals. I prep mine in advance and make him whatever he wants, so it's kind of a win-win.

I think I forgot to mention my project for Knowledge that I finished a month ago. I wanted to learn more about meditation and massage techniques. I learned that I really hate giving massages, but I love to meditate. Sometimes I overreact to things, and meditating helps me deal with those intense feelings and feel more grounded. I learned a lot about different types of mediation and chose a few I liked to use on a regular basis. Even 5 minutes a day really helps. I like to meditate after I pray but before I read my scriptures.

It was wonderful to go to the temple on Tuesday. I'd had a long day, so James took the kids to the park and lake with pizza. I cleaned the house, ate dinner, and just barely made it to the temple in time. I wasn't feeling 100%, mostly just tired, but I'm glad I went. I will never finish all these family name cards, but I'm doing my best.

Articles of Faith #8

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

I am so grateful to have both the Bible and Book of Mormon, as well as the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. All these books of scripture harmonize the teachings of the Gospel in a way that makes them more clear than only one book could do. Jesus loves all of His children, and that is evidenced by the fact that he visited them in America after his resurrection. I love reading the scriptures every day. They bring light and inspiration into my life.

Mom's Visit, Pt. 2, Conference

Fri.: Normal morning. Mom went to Bountiful Baskets with me. We met up with James and the kids at Golden Corral for dinner. Then, Mom and I went shopping at Walmart for groceries.

Sat.: Conference. James pumped out the crawl space. I worked on my rug while occasionally taking notes. :) I finished the rug right after the afternoon session was over. Mom and I read to the kids and gave them a bath while James listened to Priesthood session of Conference.

Sun.: Also Conference.

Mon.: Drove Mom to SLC after dropping Joseph off at the bus stop.  James had gone shopping for Kenny's birthday (one day early), so we came home to cupcakes and presents. Kenny was so excited.

The rest of the week has been pretty relaxed. I started another latch hook rug. It will have a rainbow pattern on it. I really like how the first one looks and feels. It's in the little bathroom.

I started a "detox". It is not anything crazy, mostly a specific plan to eat lots of veggies and easily digestible foods, drink lots of water, and not overeat as I have been since the holidays. The hardest part about is eliminating salt for a few weeks. It's all in an effort to reset my taste buds and get rid of the bloating, as well as a few pounds. I don't have a lot to lose, maybe 6-7 lbs. tops, but I have been really lazy the past few months. Now that I'm not depressed by winter anymore, it's time to shed my feelings that I ate over the past few months. (I've lost these few lbs. before, but I regained them because of my S.A.D.) This will bring me back to my pre-babies weight where I was last summer. :)

I am on day 4 now and feel awesome! I've already lost 3 lbs. Only 5 more to reach my goal, and I'm sure I will be able to in the next few weeks.

I have thought a lot about where my weight should be. I do fall in the "healthy obese" category by BMI but actually have a healthy body fat percentage if I weigh somewhere between 140 and 150. (That gives me a BFP of 25-30%). If I were athletic and starving, I could weigh anywhere from 125-140. That is probably never going to happen, but I'm okay with that. I have nothing to complain about, really, because I can wear clothes that I wore in high school...not that I have many that have lasted that long! This whole discussion is for another post when I feel ready. Soon. I definitely have more to say on the subject.

Articles of Faith #7

We believe in the gift of tonguesprophecyrevelation, visionshealinginterpretation of tongues, and so forth.

The modern-day Church has many things in common with the Church Jesus organized while He was on the Earth. One of these things is the Holy Ghost and the gifts that come from it. I believe that every person has been given gifts. Part of our purpose on Earth is to figure out what these gifts are and to grow and expand on them. God is still a god of miracles! Sometimes we just have to be looking for them.
